AWAKEN SEXUAL WELLNESS

Women’s sexual wellness goes beyond the physical and is an essential part of their social, mental, and emotional well-being, with self-esteem, self-image, energy levels, arousal, and emotional satisfaction all playing an important role in shaping sexual desire. For the majority of women, sexual wellness is dynamic and ever-changing as childbirth, multiple pregnancies, age, and hormone fluctuations strain the body, affect the anatomy of sexual organs, and cause libido and interest in sex to ebb and flow.

However, nearly 1 in 10 premenopausal women suffer from generalized hypoactive (low) sexual desire disorder, or HSDD. HSDD is a type of mental and physical sexual dysfunction that is characterized by a diminished sexual desire in women who have not had problems before and that occurs regardless of stimulation, situation, sexual activity, or partner. HSDD is a multi-faceted disorder that involves biological, psychosocial, and physiological factors. It is often associated with depression and other negative emotions and can cause significant levels of distress.

Symptoms of HSDD include:

  • Inability to maintain interest through sex
  • Loss of desire to initiate sex
  • Decreased responsiveness to stimulation
  • Decreased spontaneous sexual thoughts or fantasies

At Tulsa Men’s Clinic, we understand that a truly healthy and fulfilling sex life requires two healthy and fulfilled individuals. That’s why, in addition to proven therapies for improving men’s sexual health, we also offer innovative and effective treatment options for their female partners, including Awaken, our natural proprietary peptide treatment designed exclusively for helping you rediscover your desire for intimacy.

The Power of Peptides for Sexual Health

Female sexual desire and response is the result of a complex interaction of various neurotransmitters like dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin, and hormones, including estradiol and testosterone. While HSDD can have a variety of causes, one of the most commonly identified is an imbalance of these hormone and neurotransmitter levels in the brain, inhibiting sexual excitement and desire and creating personal distress. Treatment for HSDD typically focuses on reducing sexual distress and improving sexual desire.

Peptide therapy is one such treatment, using the body’s chemical messengers to bond to certain receptors, promote the release of hormones, and facilitate different physiological functions. Peptides are small chains of amino acids that serve unique and specific purposes within the body and have an impact on everything from pain relief and aging to immune function and libido.

Awaken contains bremelanotide, a peptide that has been effective in treating low libido and HSDD in particular. While other women’s sexual health therapies treat the vascular system, Awaken and bremelanotide provide the nervous system stimulation necessary to increase libido, reduce stress, and improve mood, all which contribute to positive, pleasant sexual experiences.

For women with HSDD, bremelanotide works by activating melanocortin receptors and stimulating the release of dopamine to improve self-imagery, reduce self-consciousness, and increase sensitivity to erotic stimuli. By interacting with the brain’s reward center, bremelanotide allows women to process erotic and sexual stimulation as rewarding.

Bremelanotide has been shown effective in:

  • Increasing libido
  • Improving sexual performance
  • Improving sexual dysfunction in women
  • Producing rapid onset of sexual arousal

      The Awaken Procedure

Awaken is an injectable treatment that is self-administered about 45 minutes before intimacy. One injection—delivered via the finest needle available for minimal discomfort—can produce results that last for several days and should not be administered more than twice per week. If you have never self-administered an injection before, we will show you how in our office so that you can feel confident doing it yourself at home.

The dosage for Awaken is different for different patients. After a complete assessment and health review, the physicians at TMC will determine the specific dosage that is right for you.
