3 Balding Myths Debunked

There are many problems when you age as a man, including hair loss. Hair loss is quite common for aging men—and can even happen to younger men—and many try different ways to deal with it. It can be frustrating to lose your hair, as it can affect your self-esteem and confidence. At the Oklahoma Men’s Clinic, we offer many options for those men looking to effectively treat their hair loss. It’s important, when looking for hair loss treatment, to understand why your hair loss might be happening. There are many myths floating around about why balding and hair loss occur, and we want to debunk a few of them below.

Balding Is Caused by Using Shampoo
This is quite obviously not true, as more men would experience hair loss when they wash their hair on a regular basis. Using shampoo is a good thing, because it keeps your hair and scalp clean. While many men find that they shed some hairs while shampooing, this is common and a totally normal occurrence.

It’s Common to Go Bald by the Time You’re 50
Again, this myth is false. Many men go bald before they’re 50, as male pattern balding can happen at almost any age. When it does start happening, it can be difficult to treat unless it’s caught early. That is why, if you’re experiencing male pattern baldness, you should try to get treatment right away. One study by the American Hair Loss Association found that 85% of men have significantly thinner hair by age 50. That does not mean you’ll be bald by age 50, however.

Wearing a Hat Can Cause Baldness
This isn’t true either. Many men believe this myth, thinking that when the hat comes into contact with your hair, it rubs it off. This simply isn’t true, as your hair is designed to stay in your head, withstanding hats, helmets, wind, and other forces. Hats are actually beneficial for balding men, as they protect the top of your head from sunburns.

If you’re a man struggling with hair loss or balding, it’s important to get treatment right away. Contact our experts at the Oklahoma Men’s Clinic to see what options are right for you.
