2 Reasons Why Age Makes It More Difficult to Sleep

Sleep is something that everyone needs a certain amount of, and when lacking, can cause serious problems. The lack of sleep can cause daytime drowsiness, mental fatigue, fogginess, lack of energy, and other problems. For aging men, they may find it’s harder to sleep the older they get. Because of the way our bodies are wired, our ability to sleep is tied to other factors, such as hormone levels or health. At the Oklahoma Men’s Clinic, we have seen hundreds of men who have suffered with sleep problems. Our physicians have treated these problems successfully by identifying underlying issues. It’s important to get treatment for insomnia or other sleep problems as the lack of sleep can affect daily activities. The following factors may be possible reasons for your sleepless nights.

Lack of Sleep Can Come from Hormonal Imbalance
Hormones are not just for sexual functions and libido but for sleep as well. As men age, the amount of testosterone can decrease, leading to problems like a lowered libido or erectile dysfunction. This lowered testosterone level can also cause difficulty sleeping. Testosterone is an important hormone in the male body, and when it becomes imbalanced, it can cause problems like insomnia. It’s important to get treatment for insomnia or other sleep issues, and one way to do that is by ensuring optimal testosterone levels. Many men have found that by increasing their testosterone, they automatically get better sleep at night.

Lack of Sleep Can Come from Being Unhealthy
As we age, our health can steadily decline. We may find we gain more weight than expected, or have a harder time exercising or eating healthy. All of these factors can cause problems when it comes to our sleep. Studies have shown that overweight or obese individuals have a harder time sleeping than most people, and are at higher risk for sleeping issues like sleep apnea. It’s important to consider your overall health as a factor in your quality of sleep.

If you struggle with sleeping at night, it’s important to get treatment. Contact the Oklahoma Men’s Clinic today to get the help you need.
